A sleeve gastrectomy is a procedure that decreases the amount of food you can eat by reducing the size of your stomach. The surgeon creates a small stomach “sleeve” using a stapling

How Does Gastric Sleeve Surgery Work?

During gastric sleeve surgery, the surgeon forms a narrow stomach “sleeve” using a specialized stapling

device. This new sleeve typically holds between 50 ml to 150 ml of food—about the size and shape of a

banana. The remaining portion of the stomach is permanently removed.

This procedure aids weight loss by limiting the volume of food—and therefore calories—you can

consume, without rerouting the intestines. Additionally, removing the fundus which is part of the

stomach causes a significant drop in the hormone “Ghrelin,” which is known to trigger hunger. As a
